Most of us have a full-time job, which occupies a great amount of time in our daily routine, challenges our creative thinking and puts our competences to work. What it also does - it provides us with the necessary finances to both live on day after day and go on holidays 2 or 3 times a year to simply relax our minds, to loosen up, to alleviate daily stress, to experience something new, to discover and explore more of this world. But what if…you could and would travel more often?
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel internationally each month? I have. And when I realized I was already doing it for a while, I decided to go for a full year, a successful attempt! Here is what I learnt during this year of monthly travels: 1. You keep a fresh, strong and beautiful mind. Once you set this objective, you are always looking for airplane tickets, for accommodation deals, for places you should visit and activities you should do once you are there; you do much research prior to each travel, and this activity trains the mind to think more effectively, to make faster connections, to schedule in advance and to organize information in a structured manner. 2. You become a more organized person. When you know you will be traveling each month somewhere, to a new city, region or country, you try to organize daily chores, activities or hobbies better, to still do everything you have to do. Thus, your organizing skills improve. Moreover, you become more organized from a financial perspective; you know that you need money for your travels, so you are more attentive and more careful with expenses. 3. You are more motivated to work. The idea that sometime during the following month you will be visiting an incredible location keeps you motivated and focused on your work. You try to give the best of you while working, so that the following trip comes to you as a reward for being hardworking and for accomplishing tasks and attaining objectives. Traveling can work as a strong psychological motivator. 4. You increase your general knowledge on-the-go. Our brain is an extremely large database, holding up information, memories, emotions, and mostly everything we can think of. Traveling monthly abroad enriches your knowledge in so many ways: exploring the useful technological updates (for your photo camera, your phone, the maps on your phone, your music player, etc.), consulting travel guides (both online, and hard-copy), reading about the history of the places you visit, learning about interesting and curious facts about visited locations, talking to people and discovering new perspectives, and the list can go on, but you get the idea. They all lead to a more comprehensive general knowledge. 5. Your social skills record an exponential growth. Travels are a steadfast symbol of a universal language, common to all of us. Want to start a conversation with both people you know and don’t know? Start a discussion about traveling. You can easily find common-ground with them by sharing impressions and ideas about your trip to somewhere. Traveling monthly only makes you know more about even more enjoyable, interesting places. As Shakespeare said, “the Earth has music for those who listen”. 6. You have a deeper sense of accomplishment. Dreaming about a location and then actually visiting it gives you a sense of accomplishment. “I did it! I got here and here is great!” loudly reverberates in your mind. Achieving this more often, monthly for example, creates an overall feeling that you are able and that you have the power to do everything you propose and intend to. Self-confidence is something we should all take good care of, since it is an intrinsic force empowering our lives. 7. You are absolutely happier. New destinations, new people, new sights, new landscapes, new everything. And I would also add “beautiful” as an accompanying adjective. The more we travel, the more we discover the beauties this Earth offers, the more we explore the outside, we become happier on the inside. Traveling teaches us to see life in colourful hues, and to be happier about what we have and what we currently do. These are a few of the lessons I came across while traveling for a full year each month to a foreign country. Going away each month just for a few days (city-breaks are always a good idea!) may lighten up your path and clear your mind. Dare to give it a try, live your dreams, live what you love!
